ALBANY, Ore. -- Albany police used a little humor after arresting a man for erratic driving Wednesday morning.
They said they received a call at about 7:15 a.m. about a driver pushing people off the road in a black truck. They said the driver was headed toward Albany and stopped at the 7-Eleven south of town. They added the hashtag #possiblebiggulpaddict.
Police said Officer Roten pulled up to see what the hurry was about, but the driver had other plans. They said as Roten approached the truck the driver backed into the patrol vehicle and took off "like a bat out of a very hot place." They added the hashtags #ournewestcarinthefleet and #wasitthebigbites.
They said the driver then proceeded to drive up on the sidewalk, hit three parked cars and an ice machine before he took off. They added the hashtags #drivinglessonsneeded and #nottheice.
Police said after the driver gave them the slip, his poor driving habits caught up with him and he crashed in a field. They added the hashtags #hittingatractoralongtheway and #trulytheworstdriveraround.
They said no one was hurt but Aaron Smith, 34, is now in custody on 12 charges, followed by the hashtags #karmacaughtup and #nomorechickenrollersforhim.
They ended the press release with "in all seriousness, we are grateful for our partners at Linn County Sheriff's Office and Oregon State Police and really thankful there were no injuries today. Drive safe and call us if you need us. #albanyoregonpolice"
