ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Grocery shoppers in Roseburg may be one step closer to getting a WinCo Foods location in the area.

The city planning commission revisited the project site plan on Monday, a month after they listened to the company’s proposal.

Planning commissioners gave support for the project, but they asked company leaders to put together a “finding of fact” proposal after concerns of traffic and safety came up.

“An attorney on behalf of an organization called Safe Streets Roseburg provided some testimony during the public hearing and included some addition information to the record when public comment closed,” said community development director Stuart Cowie.

Cowie said the planning commission will review that proposal and vote on it at their next meeting on May 17.

“I would anticipate that the findings will be adopted on the 17th, but you never know,” he said. “It could be something that they say we’re not ready to adopt these findings or we need these changes to occur.”

According to the site review plan, the company hopes to demolish the old K-Mart building on Stewart Parkway for their new location.

They expect the new building to be around 70,000 square feet with a renovated parking lot and new landscaping.
