POWERS, Ore. – Some Powers residents have filed a recall petition against the city’s mayor, Robert Kohn, and another councilman after the city fired their police chief more than two weeks ago.
Residents told KEZI 9 News they’ve always felt like their government has left them in the dark about many of their decisions.

However, when they fired Chief Robert Baker due to poor performance, they said that was the last straw.

“It gives the appearance that they really don’t care, and they don’t seem to responsive to the people’s needs,” said Stormy Hall, a Powers resident.
City officials said the first set of documents have been submitted to them in the last few weeks.
They said the secretary of state has to approve the petition and another set of documents needs to be submitted to the city before residents can start collecting signatures.
Other residents said the mayor has only done good for the city, which is why they think the recall efforts are ridiculous.
“(The mayor) has pushed to have our town work better,” said Arialana Ross, another Powers resident. “We had a water problem on the other side of town. Only the men on the council were the ones helping.”
KEZI 9 News reached out to the mayor, but he was unable to comment at this time.
