Protesters gather in downtown Eugene

Currently, about 1,000 people have gathered to protest the death of a black man at the hands of a police officer.

EUGENE, Ore. – A large crowd is gathering in downtown Eugene for the fifth consecutive night of protests over the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.

Eugene Police announced that motorists should avoid the westbound Franklin Boulevard area near Hilyard and toward Downtown due to a large march. 

The protest started by 5 p.m. with about 100 people, and the crowd grew to about 1,000 within an hour. 

Former officer Derek Chauvin faces charges of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
