EUGENE, Ore. — For the seventh consecutive night, protesters marched through downtown Eugene demanding justice for George Floyd and the end to systemic racism.

The protests started at the federal courthouse Thursday at 6 p.m. Hundreds of protesters marched down 8th Avenue to Almaden Street. They then walked down to the corner of W. 7th Avenue and Washington Street.

At one point nearly 500 protesters laid on the ground in front of the entrance to Interstate 105 on W. 7th Avenue for eight minutes and 46 seconds. The same amount of time George Floyd was pinned under the weight of four police officers before he died.

Morgan Henley, one of the protesters, said these protests should be an eye-opener for Oregonians.

"For a lot of people in Oregon, they don’t believe racism is actually something you see here," Henley said. "You don’t see overt racism. You only see institutional racism that you see."
