Reckless driving leads to multiple deaths on Highway 101

COOS COUNTY, Ore. – Multiple people are dead after a crash caused by a reckless driver, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office said.

The driver who witnesses said was driving dangerously was among those who died, authorities said. 

Deputies responded to the situation, which involved a red Mitsubishi Eclipse, at about 8 a.m. on Thursday. The car had California license plate 4NDF245.

Callers reported the vehicle was travelling in the Bandon area, making unlawful U-turns on the highway and driving at excessive speeds, and the car nearly collided with other vehicles.

At 8:17 a.m., the vehicle was involved in a crash on Highway 101 near milepost 247, deputies said. Multiple people died as a result of the crash. More information about the victims is not available at this time.
