SALEM, Ore. – Oregon’s new congressional map will now have its day in court.
Republicans have filed a lawsuit, calling the new district boundaries a case of partisan gerrymandering.
Former Oregon Secretary of State Bev Clarno and three others filed the suit in Marion County. They said the new map is unconstitutional and contrary to state law.
Democrats pushed the map through during a contentious special legislative session last month, and it could lead to democratic control of five of the state’s six seats in the US House of Representatives. The sixth seat is a new addition following population growth documented in the 2020 US Census.
