SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- The City of Sutherlin is looking to make improvement on their transportation system.

City staff say they plan to improve roads, sidewalks, bike lanes and create access to recreation.

They also say they want to make commuting around town easier for residents.

“It’s always nice to have that extra option to be able to get to work or be able to get to the stores, or the hospital even,” said Katrina Rossback, a Sutherlin resident.

Staff say the Oregon Department of Transportation approved a grant for the city in 2017. They say the grant will be used to update the city’s existing transportation plan, which was created in 2005.

They also say they’re not sure when the project will be completed because planning is in the early stages.

The city will be holding a public open house on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at the Sutherlin Civic Auditorium.
