DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- The American Red Cross and other organizations continue to provide resources and assistance to those forced to flee their homes from the Archie Creek Fire.

The Red Cross has an emergency shelter set up at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, but they aim to set up anyone who comes by with a free stay in an area motel. Plus, evacuees don't need to worry about paying the bill either.

"As long as (evacuees) at a level 2 or 3 evacuation they are allowed to stay and we just work it out with the national Red Cross administration to block out those rooms in contract with the hotels so they are allowed to stay until they can go back to their homes," said Judi Mahoney, a volunteer with the Red Cross.

She says they've found rooms for 100 people.

The Red Cross is still accepting donations but they want it to be known they can only accept commercially packaged products that are brand new and not expired if they are food. You can bring donations to the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

The Red Cross site was initially set up in Glide but once people started being evacuated they moved to the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

Both those in need of help as well as people who want to donate can call the Douglas County Health Services COVID and fire hotline where people are being matched together based on what they can offer and what others need.

There is also a 24/7 Red Cross hotline. That number is 1-888-680-1455.
