ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Rogers Family ATA martial arts club is transforming its gym into a space that specializes in distance learning.

Staff are calling the program Edu-Camp. It’s a safe space for students to get their work done during the school week while their parents are at work.

“We’re adult-supervised online learning,” said owner Janon Rogers. “We’re not a homeschool, we’re not a mini school or anything like that.”

The students will have to bring their own equipment each day. However, they will provide the students with desks and shields. All the desks will be socially distanced from one another.

They will also have staff proctoring throughout the day to help the students with their school work.

Some parents told KEZI 9 News that this program is also a great opportunity for kids to socialize after months of isolation.

“I’m really excited,” said parent Keri Dillon. “They’ll be able to get up and play and just kind of have fun with it.”

Rogers said they will run the program from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day. She said they will also host activities throughout the day to keep the kids engaged.

“We teach taekwondo, that’s what we do,” said Rogers. “So we will be teaching an in-person PE class every day.”

Edu-Camp kicks off in Roseburg on Tuesday. Rogers said they will run the program at the Cottage Grove location starting Sept. 21.

She said anyone is allowed to sign up, but they are limited to 14 students per location.

The camp costs $25 to $50 per day. However, Rogers said there will be some discounts available.
