SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Royal Caribbean is making staff reductions as a result of the pandemic.

Manager Jonathon Fishman said the company will be laying off or furloughing about 26% of its 5,000 workers in the U.S.

Affected workers were notified earlier Wednesday. Some work at the Springfield location, but most of the jobs being cut are in South Florida, Fishman said.

“The circumstances of the pandemic made this action unavoidable, and it hurts to part ways with so many good and talented people,” Fishman said in a statement.

Earlier, Royal Caribbean announced that many crew contracts were being ended early, as well.
