Corvallis, OR -- The Oregon State baseball program had a reason to celebrate Monday, as star-catcher and Pac-12 player of the year Adley Rutschman was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles as the No. 1 overall pick. And by doing so, he became the first Beaver in program history to ever be drafted No. 1 overall.
Rutschman, a Golden Spikes Award finalist, hit .411 with 17 home runs and 58 RBIs this spring, leading the Beavers to a third-place finish and 36-20-1 overall record. The 6-foot-2, 216 pound switch hitter drew a single- season school-record 76 walks (26 intentional).
Rutschman will continue his baseball career at the pro level, staying in the colors in black and orange.
