DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. -- A popular scam is making its rounds again in Douglas County.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said scammers are calling residents, claiming to be Sgt. Brad O'Dell with the sheriff's office.
The scammers tell victims they have a warrant for their arrest and must post a bond to avoid further penalties.
Andrea Zielinski with the sheriff’s office said an officer with any law enforcement agency would never call people about this.
“Law enforcement officers will never call people and demand that they pay them. We do not call to warn you that you have a warrant,” Zielinski said. “So, if you get a call that somebody’s using some type of scare tactics to get you to pay them money, that is always a red flag of a scam.”
Their advice is to hang up and educate friends and family about the scam so they don't fall victim to it.
