SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The Safeway on Main Street in Springfield will be closing for good and some residents are upset.
The store is set to close by Feb. 24.
KEZI spoke with customers who say their upset by the closure.
"It's kind of annoying because, on the way home, it's kind of nice to just get off and grab stuff and get back on the bus without having to worry about going to Albertson's or dealing with the confusing stuff going on with the remodeling over there so that's a little annoying," said Caleb White, customer.
Jill McGinnis, the Director of Communications for the Safeway Portland Division said its difficult to close an underperforming store, but they are focused on growing business by being the favorite local supermarket and running stores where people love to shop. She said their human resources department is working hard with the affected employees to find them other work.
An employee told KEZI that most employees either have jobs lined up or they're being relocated within the company.
