EUGENE, Ore. -- In just under a month, Autzen Stadium was set to be filled with more than 50,000 fans for one of the most anticipated matchups of the 2020 football season. However, that game will not be happening.

So, what happens to season ticket holders who already paid for their tickets for the 2020 season?

In an email sent to season ticket holders from Athletic Director Rob Mullens, he said they have three options.

The first option is to keep your account credit and use it towards the next season. If you choose this option, you do not have to do anything else.

"All previously paid 2020 football season tickets, per seat and parking contribution funds have automatically become a credit in your account. Any credit in your account will be available towards the purchase of tickets to any Oregon Athletics events in 2021 (should health authorities permit fans in our facilities)," Mullens' email says.

The second option is to reinvest. If you choose this option, you can do so by clicking here.

"Convert all or a portion of your account credit (2020 football season tickets, per seat and parking contribution funds) into a 100% tax-deductible donation to support Oregon student-athletes. Any credit remaining in your account, following your donation, will be available towards the purchase of tickets to any Oregon Athletics events in 2021," Mullens added.

The third option is to request a refund. If you choose this option, you can do so by clicking here. Fans can request a partial or full refund for 2020 football season tickets, per seat and parking contribution funds.

The email said any fan who chooses to keep their account credit or reinvestment of football season ticket funds will receive the following incentives:

  • Double priority points for all 2020 donations and 2021 credit rollovers*
  • Priority points for the first time for all ticket dollars*
  • Guaranteed price freeze on fall 2021 football season tickets and seat/parking contributions
  • Preservation of consecutive years of football season ticket purchases
  • Chances to win special opportunities with Oregon Football

*New priority point calculations will begin in January of 2021 and be in effect throughout the 2021 calendar year.

Some people were concerned that they would lose some of the privileges that come with being a season ticket holder if they decided to get a refund. However, University of Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens said those people will keep their current priority points.

“Our priority point system is always changing based on gifts and purchases -- it's very fluid and it has always been that way. But if someone decides to get a refund, they will retain their season ticket rights for the 2021 season,” Mullens said.

One season ticket holder said he expects many people will pick the credit option, like himself, to help the department get through this huge financial hit.

“I think the department itself is going to have some major issues financially. That's why we are kind of being supportive because they've had a lot of problems financially so we're happy to help out if we can,” season ticket holder Fritz Duncan said.

Duncan said these three options give season ticket holders a chance to do what's best for them.

One season ticket holder told KEZI 9 News that if she had the money to do so she would consider donating, but this is the next best option.

“As far as I’m concerned the safety of the team and the health of the boys is way more important to me than being able to see the games during the regular season. So I think this was a great option in light of the coronavirus outbreak,” season ticket holder Connie Dodge said.

Dodge said the department did a great job giving fans options and that she believes they covered all their bases.
