JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- The second annual Human Trafficking Symposium was held on Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Junction City.

Dozens attended the event to hear speakers and local officials speak to community members about human trafficking – an issue that affects communities throughout the country.

The event was hosted by the Junction City Police Department, Junction City Soroptimist’s and the National Women’s Coalition Against Women and Exploitation.

Organizers think collaboration is the key to ending human trafficking.

“We have law enforcement that are working, we have the FBI working. We have local citizen groups that are providing services. Nobody can do it all,” said Dawn Marie Lemonds, President of Soroptimist’s International of the America’s President.

Junction City Police Chief, Bob Morris said it’s important to “raise awareness in the local communities specifically those in the northern end of Lane County and the Southern end of Benton County.”

Morris also said he’s satisfied with the turnout of Saturday’s event and hopes to engage more community members for next year’s event.
