Second case of UK COVID-19 variant found in Oregon

The new COVID-19 virus strain was originally detected in the United Kingdom.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The second case of the new variant of COVID-19 has been identified in Oregon.

Oregon Health Authority learned of the discovery on Friday. The case is a Yamhill County resident with no known travel history. Health officials are working to determine the source of the infection.

The new COVID-19 virus strain was originally detected in the United Kingdom. It has since been detected in several U.S. states, including California.

This strain is considered to be more contagious.

The first case of this new variant was reported by OHA on Jan. 15. 

OHA continues to recommend Oregonians take every step possible to slow the spread of COVID-19.
