THURSTON, Ore. -- Residents of a Thurston neighborhood are worried after a second water main leak has happened in their area in just under a week.

The Springfield Utility Board told KEZI 9 News on Tuesday morning that the repairs were successful. They said the water is safe to drink and that there is no reason for them to issue a boil water notice.

Residents in the area said crews arrived just before 3:00 p.m. to try to patch up that leak.

We talked to an official with the Springfield Utility Board, who said she's working on gathering more information about this leak.

Resident Myrnie Daut said she heard water from that leak just before noon and was surprised to hear it this early in the season.

"I got there and I could hear loud, running water, like a creek," Daut said. "I've lived up here for 30 years, and there's a lot of water on the hill, but not in September after a record-setting drought."

She said she wasn't able to talk to SUB until a couple of hours later, and crews arrived shortly afterwards.

Another Resident, Cody Gilbert, said the water from this leak has been running through the creek drainage in his back yard.

He said he's worried that his home might suffer the same fate that his neighbor's did.

"The drainage comes across from this direction to my house, so it would make sense if it correlates with that," Gilbert said. "As a homeowner in the area, my biggest concern is that I'm between two leaks that happened, there's been substatial damage to homes, and I'm very concerned that my home could be next."

Residents said they hope something is done to fix this reoccuring issue before more damage is caused to homes in the area.
