ELMIRA, Ore. – A suspect has been arrested after deputies came under fire while responding to a home near Elmira.

Lane County deputies arrived to the 24700 block of Butler Road just after noon on Friday after receiving a report of a dispute.

Someone inside the home reportedly shot at the deputies, and at least one deputy returned fire as they retreated.

Authorities said the shooter continued to fire at the deputies.

Oregon State Police responded and made several attempts to contact the suspect, who was identified as Everett Rojas, 68, of Veneta. Three people from another part of the home were safely evacuated.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team responded along with additional armored rescue vehicles. Deputies say as the team worked to talk Rojas out of the house, he began firing again.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Rojas was arrested outside the home. There is no information yet on what charges Rojas will face. The Lane County Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team will look into the shooting.

No one was injured.
