COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- The South Lane School Board named the district's new superintendent this week.
The board picked interim superintendent Yvonne Curtis, who has more than 20 years of experience in Oregon public education.
Officials said the decision is effective July 1.
"Dr. Curtis has the experience that will benefit our school district, putting our students first to improve graduation rates, supporting student success in all Pk-12 academic areas and programs and meeting the needs of our diverse communities in our school district and building positive relationship within our community," said board chair Sherry Duerst-Higgins in a statement.
Curtis has a doctoral degree from the University of Oregon and a master of teaching degree from Lewis and Clark college.
"I am deeply honored and grateful for this opportunity to lead the South Lane School District," Curtis said in a statement.
