OAKLAND, Ore. – A Sutherlin man died Thursday afternoon after his car crashed while he was driving around a corner.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Austin Ward, 43, was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

It happened in the 2100 block of Driver Valley Road just before 3 p.m. Deputies arrived the scene and found a white 1995 Ford F250 pickup. Ward, the only person in the car, was declared dead at the scene.

Deputies say he had been headed eastbound when he failed to negotiate the corner and crashed. Speed is believed to have been a factor.

The Oakland Fire Department, Umpqua Valley Ambulance and Roseburg Towing assisted deputies.
