SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The future of the Patrician mobile home park will have to wait another two weeks after the Springfield City Council closed public hearing on the matter Monday night.

The city council heard more than an hour of public comments on the proposed rezoning of the park. All but one of the speakers pleaded with the city council to keep the Patrician Mobile Home Park zoned as low-density residential.

Congressman Peter DeFazio even sent a letter to the council voicing his support for the residents.

The main theme of the comments Monday night was if the landowner decides to redevelop the mobile home park, the state-required minimum buyout of $8,000 is not enough. Many speakers wanted to see the city council pass an ordinance raising the required minimum to match the market values of the mobile homes.

“The owner can sleep at night knowing that he paid us the fair market value of the home. We go away with more than $8,000 to buy another home. If you don’t do this, you're going to see the collapse of other mobile home parks,” one speaker said.

The landowner now has one week to submit a written rebuttal and then the city council could decide the fate of the Patrician Mobile Home Park by Oct. 7.
