SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Two ready-to-work classes at Springfield High School recently got a big donation.

The money will go toward training students for jobs right out of school in the medical and business industries.

The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce gave nearly $6,600 to two programs. Of that, $5,000 went to the high school’s medical assistant program and $1,500 went to the business and technology program.

Both classes train students with real world skills that can help graduates earn up to six figures without a college degree.

“We are preparing students for careers once they leave high school, so some students would rather go into a career for a little bit and then maybe go to college, but just creating genuine authentic opportunities in schools so they are ready for a career upon graduation,” said Mindy LeRoux, the high school director at Springfield Public Schools.

Officials with the Chamber of Commerce said this is the third year they’ve donated money to Springfield Public Schools and they said to look for another donation next year.
