SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A Springfield High School student will travel to Australia to play the tuba this fall in the Pacific Honors Ensemble Program.

Trenton Fleenor, a junior at SHS, was one of about a dozen students selected from the Western International Band Clinic which hosts students from all over the world.

“This is something that doesn’t happen often, it’s kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity for me,” Fleenor says. “The fact that I’m going overseas to Australia is just huge.”

He has played tuba for about six years and said he practices at least once a day for about an hour.

Fleenor will spend a few weeks in Queensland playing with other students from Australia and America at Griffith University.

While there he will have the opportunity to work under accomplished conductors and perform at the Sydney Opera House.
