SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The Springfield Police Department is now hiring, and they're offering a rather large, “if not the largest,” incentive package in the region for officers coming from other departments.
They are also looking for detention officers and entry-level police officers.
For lateral police officer applicants, incentives include a $10,000 signing bonus, a $2,000 eligible reimbursement moving expenses, 100 hours of vacation, and 100 hours of sick time.
According to the department, professionalism and a strong work ethic are a “must” when seeking a potential lateral police officer.
Chief Andrew Shearer said this is a time of growth and positive change for the department.
"We are excited to present this opportunity to current sworn law enforcement officers in good standing. We also are seeking people with diverse backgrounds and experiences who are ready to serve the people of Springfield with dignity and respect,” Shearer said.
Sergeant Mike Massey said they are also hoping this hiring prosses will bring in a little positivity.
“In general, the police department is changing,” Massey said. “Any positivity we can bring into our working environment-- whether it's interior or exterior-- we're going to welcome that.”
