Springfield man charged with murder

Mattei was transported to the Lane County Jail and is being charged with murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. --- A Springfield man is being charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed a woman on Friday night. 

Springfield police responded to a apartment complex on 2nd Street around 10:30 after receiving reports of a possible gunshot wound.  

Police said the victim, Krystal Ashley Jones, 31, of Springfield was found and transported to the Riverbend Hospital by an ambulance and later died. 

Police told KEZI 9 News that Jones lived with Gino Ugo Mattei, 46, of Springfield at the time of this incident. They said he fled the scene of the murder but was located and arrested several hours later by Springfield police. 

Mattei was transported to the Lane County Jail and is being charged with murder and unlawful use of a weapon. 

Police are still gathering evidence from the scene at this time and ask anyone with information about the murder to contact the Springfield Police Investigations Division at (541) 726-3721.

This investigation is ongoing.
