SPRINGFIELD, Ore.-- Springfield Public Schools announced Monday they will be moving all students to online learning after receiving  the Oregon Health Authority's weekly case and testing rate.

In an email to parents, district officials announced starting this Thursday, all grades, including Kindergarten and 1st grade will be online. The district cited OHA's data showing, for the second week in a row, Lane County saw more than 30 cases per 100,000 for the reason behind their decision. According to district and health officials, this increase rate goes beyond the safety threshold for in-person learning.

The district did not say when they plan on having in-person classes return. But officials did end the email with this message to students and parents.:

"We miss our students, and can’t wait to have them back in the classroom. In order to do that, we must work together to stop the spread of COVID-19. Moving forward, we will continue to monitor the official OHA School Metrics report and will share information with families as the case count returns to safe levels that allow for our students return to in-person instruction."
