Springfield boy cleans up dozens of trash cans

The 8-year-old wanted to help after the windy weather left trash scattered throughout a Springfield neighborhood.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - An 8-year-old Springfield boy went to work Thursday morning after windy weather knocked over trash cans in his neighborhood.

Colby Marchant was in the car with his mother when he noticed dozens of garbage and recycling bins had blown over in the Thurston area, leaving scattered trash everywhere.

He told his mom to stop the car and he got out and helped pick up 40 garbage cans. He also picked up garbage from his neighbors' yards.

He says he didn't want people to have to come home from work and have to pick up trash, because they'd be tired.

Colby's mom says she's glad he's so eager to help others.
