SPRINGFIELD, Ore.--A man made racist remarks and threatened a Black man with a knife, then told a Black woman that he was going to kill her, according to Springfield Police.

The alleged incident happened yesterday afternoon in downtown Springfield.

Arrested was Michael Schlimmer, 52. He's charged with bias crimes, menacing, and other charges.

Witnesses said Schlimmer first approached a couple near 14th and Main, brandishing a knife and threatening the man, who is Black. The couple told police they have never seen Schlimmer before.

Afterwards, Schlimmer allegedly made his way to Bobbi's VIP Room at 1195 Main Street and broke a glass door. Witnesses say he also snuck up behind a Black customer and whispered in her ear that he was going to "murder" her.
