SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A Springfield man was arrested early Monday morning after police said he fired a gun in the area of 39th and Main streets.

Eight shell casings were found on Main Street.

The shooting was not related to a riot or protest, police said. And police don’t believe the shooter was firing at another person.

At about 2:45 a.m., police arrived at the scene, searching for a suspect.

Officers reportedly found Colten Schell, 28, trying to get into an apartment complex parking lot in the 200 block of 39th Street. Officers ordered Schell to lay on the ground, and a handgun was found tucked into his front waistband.

They said he was intoxicated and was slow to respond to orders. After he reportedly made a comment about lowering his hands, a Taser was used but was unsuccessful.

Schell got on the ground and was taken into custody. He faces charges of unlawfully discharging a firearm and disorderly conduct.

If you witnessed the incident, contact the Springfield Police Department.
