SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Residents of a Springfield mobile home park say they're worried they could lose their homes if the land is rezoned for commercial use.

City officials say the owner of the Patrician mobile home park, which is for people 55 years old or older, has informed them he wants to redevelop the property within the next 10 years. While that does not necessarily mean the mobile home park will close, many residents said they are fearful that it could. Many said if the park did close, they wouldn't have anywhere to go or have the money to move.

“I had put all my savings into this place, so I really don’t have a plan B,” said Joelle Sherman.

If the park did end up closing, under state law, the owner would be required to pay residents anywhere from $6,000 to $10,000 depending on the size of their home. However, many residents said that wouldn’t be enough to relocate.

Chris Rivera, another resident, said this is just business. She said the park could close at any time regardless of how it is zoned.

“I do feel bad for my neighbors and friends who have paid a lot of money for these mobile homes but again, buyer beware,” said Rivera.

If the park did close, officials said, the residents will get one-year notice.Other residents said even if the park did not close the zoning change would reduce how much their home is worth.

There will be a public hearing on May 7 to discuss the issue. Officials said final decisions about the zoning changes will be made by June.

KEZI 9 News reached out to the property manager of the Patrician Mobile Home Park but did not hear back.
