SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A Springfield family in a domestic violence situation is getting some help from the CHETT program.
The program is made up of donations through the Springfield Police Department to help victims.
Police said they gave the family about $1,000 to help them reclaim their lives and maintain stability during their transition to safety.
Officers said the abuser cleared out money set aside for rent and utilities when he sensed he was losing power and control.
“So many times in law enforcement we are putting Band-Aids on and triaging emergency situations and we don't always have the opportunity to really try to make a difference,” said Lt. Scott McKee with Springfield police. “So this fund gives us the opportunity to make a difference.”
If you’d like to help the CHETT program, you can make donations at the Springfield Justice Center.
