SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- An armed man who held police at bay for several hours on Thursday was arrested after a tactical unit stormed an apartment near 1st and F streets in Springfield.
Police said Benjamin Bryant was taken into custody at 1:36 p.m. Bryant was charged with felon in possession of a firearm and menacing with a firearm. Police say he was also wanted on parole violations involving assault on a public safety officer.

The incident began around 9:20 when Bryant allegedly stood on an apartment balcony and displayed a gun. Police say he told them that he was ready for a "shootout" once the media arrived.
Bryant allegedly livestreamed the event on social media.
Pioneer Parkway West and Centennial Boulevard were blocked, snarling traffic for hours.
