SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- A Springfield woman was arrested early Saturday morning after threatening to shoot family members if they tried to leave the house, or herself with a handgun.

It all started at 1:00 a.m. when police got a frantic call from Claudia Valenzuela's husband, who said his wife had pointed a gun at members of their family and her own head following an argument.

Valenzuela's husband left the house to call the police but their young son was still inside after locking himself in the upstairs bedroom.

Police surrounded the house and after multiple attempts to reach Valenzuela, she answered the phone and told dispatch that she would cooperate with the police.

Valenzuela exited out the front doors of her residence and was taken into custody without further incident.

The gun was located and seized for safekeeping. Valenzuela was transported to the Lane County Jail where she was lodged for menacing APA and unlawful use of a weapon.

If anyone has any additional information they are asked to call the Springfield Police Department at 541-726-3714.
