EUGENE, Ore. -- With marine fogs around this morning, one might think we were in the middle of September rather than early August. This is due to strong onshore flow, which is expected to increase over the coming days. Marine clouds today will keep temperatures in the southern Willamette Valley and Umpqua Basin in the middle 80s today, despite the sunshine coming out this afternoon. Areas closer to Portland and the Hood River Valley will see more sun and will still likely be close to 90 today.
Tuesday: Becoming sunny. Highs in mid 80s
Wednesday: Becoming sunny. Highs in upper 70s to low 80s
Thursday: Mostly cloudy. Highs in low 80s
Friday: Mostly cloudy w/ chance of showers. Highs in mid 70s
Saturday: Partly sunny w/ chance of showers. Highs in upper 70s to low 80s
Sunday: Mostly Sunny. Highs in low to mid 80s
Monday: Sunny. Highs in mid to upper 80s
Onshore flow will continue Wednesday with morning marine clouds extending inland with sun making an appearance in the afternoon. The Coast will likely remain overcast all of the day. Marine clouds will keep temperatures inland in the near 80s.
Marine clouds are expected to continue to deepen on Thursday with overall cloud cover likely to persist through out the day. Temperatures will remain near 80.
Things get more interesting on Friday with a low-pressure system moving in Friday PM into Saturday. Models differ at this time with European Model looking faster and weaker, while the American Model being slower and a little strong. If the American model verifies is could be an active thunderstorm day, cloud cover could limit some potential. Depending on where the low comes ashore will factor in the amount of precipitation as well. The wettest solutions point to at least a quarter-inch of rain -- Eugene normally seeing 0.61 inch of rain in the month of August.
More stable air will return on Sunday and into next week with more sunshine and warmer temperatures returning.
