COOS COUNTY, Ore. – A 54-year-old man was rescued over the weekend after spending five days stranded at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

Hikers called 911 after spotting the man on the John Dellenback Trail. The man had fallen off a dune and hurt his neck and back. He was also suffering from dehydration.

After receiving the call at about 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, medical personnel responded to the area. They hiked through the dunes to get to the man and provided medical aid.

Due to the inaccessibility of the dunes, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office requested a US Coast Guard helicopter to transport the victim to the hospital.
