EUGENE, Ore. --- Two people are in jail after a suspicious vehicle stop turned into a short pursuit on Thursday afternoon.

The Street Crimes Unit was advised of a suspicious vehicle possibly casing houses in the Cal Young area.

Officers were provided a vehicle description and license plate and determined it was associated with Daymien Tilton Banegas, age 22.

The SCU along with a detective from Special Investigations Unit found the involved vehicle around 4:52 p.m. parked at the Motel 6 in Springfield. Police said when the vehicle left the area, officers made a traffic stop.

Police told KEZI 9 News that when the vehicle stopped, a man later identified as Andrew Shae Tayborne, age 27, got out of the vehicle and walked away.

Police said the car immediately sped off, northbound on Gateway Street and the driver, Banegas, lost control just north of the Motel 6.

Police said the vehicle hit a power pole and became inoperable. Banegas quickly left the vehicle and ran away from officers.

Officers engaged in a short foot pursuit and then used a taser to take Banegas into custody.

Police said other officers were able to locate Tayborne who was avoiding officers by going in and out of businesses in the area.

Banegas was charged with Elude by Vehicle, Elude by Foot, Reckless Driving, Hit and Run Property Damage, DWS-Misdemeanor, POssession of a Controlled Substance Methamphetamine

Tayborne was charged with Warrant - Forgery I, Warrant - Identity Theft, Possession of a Controlled Substance Schedule II.
