String of small fires reported overnight in Eugene

Firefighters had a busy night in Eugene responding to a series of small fires. Some started in dumpsters while others reportedly broke out in grass and trees.

EUGENE, Ore. -- Firefighters had a busy night in Eugene responding to a series of small fires. Some started in dumpsters while others reportedly broke out in grass and trees.

Over the course of about three hours, firefighters were called to seven small fires. All of them were within a relatively close proximity.

A trash bin fire was reported at West Seventh Alley and Olive Street around 12:37 a.m. A few minutes later, another trash bin fire was reported on West Sixth Avenue. Not long after that, there was another trash bIn fire reported also on West Sixth Avenue. Then at 1:20 a.m., there was a reported trash bin fire on West Fourth Avenue. By 1:57, a brush fire had reportedly engulfed a tree on Washington Street and West Second Avenue. Then at 3:14 a.m., a grass fire broke out on Pearl Street. Then at 3:37 a.m., there was another trash bin fire on East Third Avenue.

Officials said they are investigating Monday's fires in relation to similar fires over the last several weeks. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should contact 541-682-5111.
