SPRINGFIELD, Ore., -- Students at Briggs Middle School have a new way to exercise in PE.
With help from a $3,000 grant from the Springfield Education Foundation, the school was able to invest in a program called DrumFit, where students exercise to the beat of their own drumming.
It involves a series of aerobic exercises where students drum, dance, spin and stretch around an exercise ball.
PE teacher Alicia Chamness said it is a fun way to get all students engaged in class.
"So I think it's really important to show kids that they can be active without having to be in a team sport setting or a competitive setting. It just gets them interested," Chamness said.
Students in the class said the new program made it more exciting to come to class.
"I just think it's fun to try new things we never would have tried outside of this class," Jillian Goggins, a student, said.
Chamness said this program was a good way for students of all fitness levels and abilities to participate.
