FLORENCE, Ore – Students at Siuslaw Elementary School just finished their penny drive competition to donate to Florence Food Share.
This year the students raised $2,963.03. That money will provide Florence Food Share the ability to distribute 103,705 pounds of food.
Ellen Glowacki organized the fundraiser. She tells KEZI 9 News the school decided to do a penny drive this year instead of their usual food drive in the hopes of helping food banks in greater way than a food drive can.
In addition to donations from adults, many children donated their own money to the penny drive.
