CORVALLIS, Ore. -- A suspect in a theft was arrested near Corvallis High School Tuesday morning, prompting a lockdown at the school.

Robert Miller, 37, of Corvallis was taken into custody after a theft at Fred Meyer, 777 NW Kings Blvd, at about 10:30 a.m. A Loss Prevention Officer said Miller hit him and showed a knife. Police said Miller left the area, headed eastbound on NW Buchanan Avenue.

Officers located Miller across from the high school and requested a lockout. Due to a miscommunication, the high school went on lockdown. Police said Miller was never on the school’s property. The lockout was lifted within six minutes.

Miller is in the Benton County Jail, facing charges of third-degree robbery, fourth-degree attempted assault, menacing, second-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct and third-degree theft. Police said Miller also had an active warrant for his arrest.
