SWEET HOME, Ore. -- The Shobert family home that burned to the ground on April 28 is left with nothing but debris and now a devastating truth.

According to Sweet Home police, John Shobert murdered his teenage son Johnathan, his 2-year-old daughter Charlotte and his wife Tiffany before lighting the trailer on fire and shooting himself.

"It's been hard for me because I have my nieces and nephews that live with me. Some nights I don't sleep because I am making sure they are okay,” said a next-door neighbor who wanted to remain anonymous.

Abigail Mace, who’s been the property manager of the Tamarack Ridge Estates for the better part of two decades, knew the Shobert family for three years. From her experience, she did not sense any bad blood between the family.

“I guess it’s probably something from their past. I don’t know. Police aren’t even clear,” Mace said. “Maybe we’ll never be completely clear on what happened.”

Unfortunately, for now, that is the case. Police investigated for the past two months and could not uncover a motive.

“We just don’t really know why it happened. And frankly, that’s what the investigators are still trying to figure out -- the whys of it,” said Chief Jeff Lynn. “It’s very frustrating as you can imagine. That will keep people from putting closure to it.”

Anthony Swartz, Tiffany’s son, said he lost his entire immediate family.

"I'm really sad for the son that is left because he lost his whole family and that is so sad. There's nothing that can fix that,” said next-door neighbor Connor Peterson.

Anthony started a GoFundMe page to help with some of the financial burdens he’s facing like paying off John and Tiffany’s car payments.

There are definite plans to tear down the entire unit and start fresh. It’s a project expected to be completed within the next month.
