COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. - Two teenage boys were arrested Wednesday night after police said they burglarized the Banner Bank in Cottage Grove.

Police said they received a call from someone who saw the two boys breaking into the bank around 8:10 pm. They said the boys had taken rocks from outside the bank and used them to break a large window near the entrance.

Police said they were already in the area when they got the call. They were just across the street handling a call at Grocery Outlet, so they were able to get to the bank quickly and catch the boys inside.

Police said the teenagers were compliant and exited the building when they were asked to.

Chief Scott Shepherd said the two boys appeared to be intoxicated, and he doesn't believe they had malicious intent or planned to steal anything. However, he said their actions were thoughtless. Shepherd said while inside the boys mostly wandered around the bank and ate the suckers inside.

"Both appeared to be remorseful while they were in custody, but they caused a bunch of damage in the meantime. We estimated that the damage, working with the bank staff, will be about $1,500," said Chief Shepherd.

Shepherd said the two boys were both runaways from the Eugene-Springfield area. He said they are 14 and 15 years old. The two were charged with burglary and criminal mischief.
