Elkhead fire & Hayhurst fire burn in Douglas County

The fires are under investigation and are not currently threatening any homes.

YONCALLA, Ore. – The cause of the Hayhurst Road Fire and Elkhead Road fire near Yoncalla is under investigation.

The Hayhurst fire is estimated to be 50 acres and the Elkhead fire is estimated to be 17 acres.

According to the Douglas Forest Protective Association, the Hayhurst Road Fire is burning about three miles west of Yoncalla, near the 4000 block of Hayhurst Road.

The Elkhead Road Fire is burning five miles east of Rice Hill.

On Thursday night the Douglas Forest Protective Association reported that the burning was expected to calm down overnight, making it easier for fire crews to make progress on containing the fire.

Fire officials also said homes are not being threatened by either fire.
