CONSUMER ALERT -- There is less than one month left to file taxes. The deadline to file your 2017 tax returns is Tuesday April 17.

It comes two days later than the regular deadline. April 15 falls on a Sunday this year. Under normal circumstances, the deadline gets pushed back to the next business day when it falls on a weekend.

But, April 16 is also Emancipation Day, which marks the day in 1862 when President Abraham Lincoln freed more than 3,000 enslaved people in Washington, D.C. The day is an official holiday in the district, which is why the tax deadline is on April 17 this year.
