Third case of UK COVID-19 variant found in Oregon

The case is a Washington County resident with a known travel history outside of the United States during their exposure period.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The third case of the new variant of COVID-19 has been identified in Oregon.

Oregon Health Authority learned of the discovery on Sunday. The case is a Washington County resident with a known travel history outside of the United States during their exposure period.

The new COVID-19 virus strain was originally detected in the United Kingdom. It has since been detected in several U.S. states, including California.

This strain is considered to be more contagious.

The first case of this new variant was reported by OHA on Jan. 15.

The second case was reported by OHA on Jan. 23.

OHA continues to recommend Oregonians take every step possible to slow the spread of COVID-19.
