ALBANY, Ore. – Thousands of people lined the streets in downtown Albany for the largest Veterans Day parade west of the Mississippi.

Along the route, people could hear the sound of over 400 motorcycles and people cheering on the hundreds of parade participants.

People said they wanted to honor their veterans in a special way.

"It's just great. There's a lot of turnout. People are very respectful of veterans,” said Pam Collier, an Albany resident. “It's really nice to see that and give them the honor they deserve."

Numerous people even came in from out of town to attend the parade. Many veterans who were there said those in the Albany community give them a warm welcome, and they feel honored.

"I think everyone needs to remember every day, not just one day, that people are over there right now fighting for us,” said Albany resident Theresa Souza.

Organizers said the parade is the third largest Veterans Day parade in the nation.
