Thousands practice earthquake safety in Oregon

The Great Shakeout is the world's largest earthquake drill.

EUGENE, Ore. – Thousands of Oregon residents participated in the Great Shakeout earthquake drill Thursday at 10:17 a.m.

The Great Shakeout is the world's largest earthquake drill with 65.9 million people registered worldwide. 

The earthquake drill prepares people to survive the devastation of an earthquake.

One of the most popular drills people will learn is the "drop, cover and hold" technique.

More than 720,000 people registered for the event in Oregon.
