ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Bad online dating experiences are nothing new. But imagine running into someone who is currently incarcerated in the Federal Detention Center in Sheridan.

That's what happened to one Tacoma woman going by the name "Sherry."

"I was really surprised at how much detail he went into with his first and last name, his prisoner number, a cell phone that he could be reached at," Sherry said.

The profile that Sherry received a "like" from on Tinder was Maurice Hurth, 42.

Hurth's profile shows him holding a child with a description that says "currently incarcerated" and "live in the Seattle area, locked up in the Portland area."

Hurth was arrested by Roseburg Police last February when he was allegedly seen driving a suspicious car near the airport with three missing teenage girls. The girls reportedly told police that Hurth had given them alcohol and drugs, took their phones from them, and even took inappropriate pictures of them.

Police said Hurth was taking them to California to engage in prostitution.

Hurth is currently in the Federal Detention Center facing several crimes involving sex trafficking of children by force, fraud, coercion and transportation of minors.

Sherry said this isn't her first time running into an incarcerated man on Tinder.

"Why put them in jail, if you're going to give them access to potential victims?" Sherry said. "I want prisons to understand, they need to watching for this and Tinder needs to be aware of it too and maybe rethink who they let join their app."

Cyber Dating Expert founder Julie Spira said she has never seen an online dating case where someone who was incarcerated tried to match with someone online.

"In my 26 years of coaching singles and helping those finding love online, I have never made a match or found someone who was incarcerated," Spira said.

Spira said nowadays online dating apps have made it easier to conduct background checks.

"As far as the dating sites and the dating apps, they started doing their own background checks," Spira said. "They make it very easy for you to report someone who is harassing you."

KEZI 9 News reached out to Tinder about Maurice Hurth's profile. They confirmed his profile has been removed.

In a statement, Tinder said: "We take our members’ safety seriously. If a member contacts us to report any bad online or offline behavior, our team carefully reviews the report and takes the necessary action to remove any inappropriate profile from our platform. If a crime has been committed, we encourage members to report it to local law enforcement. Our dedicated team will cooperate with law enforcement if they are contacted directly."

KEZI 9 News also reached out to the Federal Detention Center in Sheridan but did not hear back.
