Train carrying lumber derails near Albany

The derailment happened along Highway 20 between Independence Highway and Hyak County Park.

ALBANY, Ore. -- A train carrying lumber derailed near Albany Wednesday morning.

The derailment happened along Highway 20 between Independence Highway and Hyak County Park at milepost 7.5 west of Albany.

It was a Portland & Western Railroad train that derailed, dumping lumber down an embankment. Officials with the company said three of its train cars are off the tracks.

They said they don’t know how much lumber was lost and how much the repairs will cost.

Crews said no was hurt and they are still investigating why it went off the tracks.

Clean up is expected to take several days.
